Welcome to nicksmarathon.com

Updated the games page - now includes a log of all the games we played all weekend (phew!)

Some video from the marathon (I think this is sometime early Sunday morning).

Nick's Marathon is an annual video game marathon fundraising event that took place continuously from 11:59PM EST Friday, October 24, 2008 until 5:28PM EST Sunday, October 26, 2008.

This site is dedicated to the memory of Nicholas Capobianco.

Nick was a great guy, the nicest kid you ever met and the kind of friend you wanted to have. He had beaten leukemia as a child, but unfortunately, it came back in his 20s. Always with high hope and smiling until the end, Nick passed away on June 12, 2008.

We weren't always (translation: ever) in the "cool" group in high school. We weren't invited to the fun make-out parties, but our merry gang of outcasts had fun every weekend anyway, sitting around Nick's TV playing video games, usually co-op, for hours on end. Bomberman marathons, Mario Kart tournaments, beating TMNT IV once again just for the hell of it - that was our coming age of age. It might not have the makings of a great teen movie, but hey, we all turned out alright. And now that Nick's gone, those memories are all the more poignant.

So we decided to start a charity in Nick's memory. We called it Nick's Marathon. A bunch of us who knew Nick played some classic co-op games (you can see the list here) all weekend long, with no breaks, starting October 24, 2008 at 11:59PM EST. We raised money for three great charities: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The Ronald McDonald House, and Child's Play. There was a live feed of the video game, and a live webcam of us playing the games. We started Friday night. We didn't know when we'd finish.

If you would like to donate to these charities, please click on the paypal link on the top-left. Oh, and 100% of the donation is going to the charity. We're not taking anything out for hosting, registrations, etc. We're covering all of that ourselves. And... all donations of $100 and over will receive a complimentary Nick's Marathon t-shirt!
